Enjoying the Corniche

Beirut's seaside promenade is called the Corniche. It stretches along the promontory in Beirut's Al Manara district. The most popular place for joggers,rollerbladers, cyclists and Beirutis who simply enjoy to 'take the air' the corniche is dotted with palm trees many of whic bear bulletscars from the day of the Civil War. The railings were once painted blue but are now replaced by more modern looking aluminium railings. Vendors with drinks and snacks mingle with the pedestrians and many sit down cafes invite for a rest and enjoyment of the Mediterranean, espcially when the sun is setting. A beach club which is quite fashionable is also to be found along the Corniche and, of course, Beirut's most famous natural landmark: Pidgeon Rock.
