Faerie Glen Nature Preserve is a beautiful piece of preserved natural heritage, located close to the residential areas of Pretoria. In spite of being surrounded by an urban jungle, the preserve contains a teeming wildlife population. Bird-watching is an especially rewarding activity here, given the over 150 species of birds that have been spotted here. The preserve is made up of all land forms, including hills and small mountains. These make for great hiking and climbing trails. In fact, the only way of exploring the park is to set off down one of these trails of varying degrees of difficulty. Besides birds, one can also observe some rare species of trees and insects. Entry is free and dogs on leashes are allowed.
