Founded in 1891, the course is bordered by the picturesque Cave Hill on one side and Belfast Lough on the other. Over 1000 feet above sea level, Cave Hill makes a stunning backdrop to many of the holes. The course was expanded to 18 holes in 1923. These were found to be too cramped and the course was later redesigned with 11 holes on the south side and 7 on the north of Gray’s Lane - essentially the layout played today.
