Garces Trading Co

1113 Locust Street Cuisines: European, French

About

Garces Trading Company is the first of its kind in Philadelphia and maybe on the entire East Coast.  Iron Chef Jose Garces has created a combination European-style marketplace, wine store, and cafe.  Counters line two sides of the space and serve as the marketplace, offering charcuterie, cheeses, breads, coffee, and Garces' homemade condiments (like lavender truffle honey -- delicious!).  On the far side of the space is the wine cellar, where you can pick up a bottle of Garces' hand-picked selections to take out or to consume in the cafe area, which sits in the middle of the large room.  The cafe offers a menu of light fare, including flatbread pizzas, salads, and pastas, as well as a larger Plat du Jour, which ranges from paella to cote du boeuf.  The cafe menu also includes a long list of charcuterie and cheese; if you're overwhelmed by the choices, you can order the "chef's selection" of these.  Not only is the food delicious -- what else would you expect from Jose Garces -- but the atmosphere of Garces Trading Company is light, stylish, and pleasant, making for a lovely shopping or dining experience.
