8, Kapitul'na St, Uzhhorod, Ukraine

About

Built in 1640 by the ruling Druget family, this is the main Greek Catholic Church and Monastery in Uzhgorod. It originally was a Roman Catholic church but was given to the Greek Catholic Eparchy by Austrian Empress Maria Teresa in 1775. It was confiscated by the Soviet authorities in 1949 and turned over to the Russian Orthodox Church. It was returned to the Greek Catholic Eparchy upon Ukrainian independence in 1991.
