Hameln became popular worldwide because of the fairytale "The Pied Piper of Hamlyn." The beautiful old town of Hameln has a fabulous atmosphere with numerous renaissance-buildings even today. Every year about 2 million people visit Hameln and about 200,000 stay there for the night. The "Pied Piper plays", on from May to September are very popular, and take place every Sunday in front of the "Hochzeitshaus". The most famous sights in Hameln are the "Pied Piper's house" (1602), the "Dempterhouse" (1607), the "Leisthouse" (1585-89) and the "Hochzeitshouse" (1610-17).
