Hiap Joo Bakery and Biscuit Factory

 Hiap Joo's star attraction is their delicious banana cake. The famous banana cake is slightly charred on the outside and inside it is soft, fragrant and moist. As no chemical essence or artificial flavourings are used, the cakes are subtly sweet - not sugary. It feels light, spongy and airy, unlike the usual heavy, dense and greasy supermarket cakes that leave me feeling bloated and stuffed.For over 80 years this little bakery has baked delicious buns, cakes and biscuits in a charcoal oven just as the founder had done before in his native Hainan, China. The coconut buns and bread rolls are ready by 12.30pm, and sold out by 3pm. The banana cake is baked all day, with the last batch done by about 2.30pm.
