About

Bypassed by the Stuart Highway, the small community of Howard Springs, lying twenty-two kilometres to the west is a satellite of the city. The scenic rural environment is the attraction for the people who live here but who mostly travel to Darwin for work. The district is known for its orchid farms and exotic nurseries so many people make the trip to this outer Darwin district to choose a colourful plant for their home garden. A beautiful spring-fed swimming pool, fringed by rainforest is the central feature of Howard Springs Nature Park, located at the end of Howard Springs Road. During World War II the springs were a rest and recreation area for servicemen and today they are still used for much the same purpose. Picnic areas, barbecues, restrooms and a kiosk are open daily. Wildlife abounds - barramundi, other fish and turtles live in the pool and birds, wallabies and goannas are found throughout the park.
