Located on the Pier in Baltimore, County Cork Island Crafts features the work of the many local crafts people as follows:Brendan Scully of Cape Clear Island makes a range of traditional Irish boat models and other items inspired by the sea. Larger pieces are carved from driftwood and native timber while smaller items are cold cast and hand painted. Lush Life Jewellery, as the name suggests, has a rich and varied texture reflecting the abundant marine life of Sherkin Island. Sherkin Island Silver features original and Celtic designs in gold, silver and brass set with gemstones.Sherkin Island Knitwear specialises in lightweight ladies knitwear and accessories, using hand-dyed cotton and chenille yarns with decorative clay buttons.Jane O'Farrell lives on Heir Island and creates original silk paintings which echo the vibrant natural light and colours of the island's coastline. Jane also welcomes commissions.Veronica O'Driscoll inspired by the nature around her works with silk. Her colours are mixed from primary shades using her own development techniques. Each piece is an original creation in 100% pure silk with hand rolled edges, colourfast and washable.Matthew Clarke's millinery range employs a variety of materials and techniques to achieve a truly original product.Tuan Crafts use a variety of clays, glazes and lustres to produce their attractive range of decorative tiles, plaques and bowls featuring motifs from marine life.Robin Snelson uses 220 year old leather recovered from the wreck of the Metta Catharina von Flensberg which sank in Plymouth Souns in 1786 to produce unique leather goods. Island Crafts is run by the crafts workers themselves enabling direct sale from producer to consumer. The store is located in the lovely town of Baltimore. This fishing village in West Cork sits near the very southern tip of Ireland on the beautiful southwest coast. Slightly off the main tourist trail, Baltimore has retained its friendly village atmosphere yet still has plenty to offer the holidaymaker. There are no shopping malls but also no shortage of high quality accommodation and great places to eat and drink. Across a superb natural harbour lie Carbery's Hundred Isles, including the enchanting islands of Cape Clear, Sherkin and Heir, just a short ferry ride away from Baltimore pier.
