Jogeshwai Vikhroli Link Road, Jogeshwari East

About

The Jogeshwari Caves are just off the Western Express Highway in Jogeshwari East. It is easy to miss the caves so keep a careful eye out. Classified as endangered, it is recommended to visit them soon, before they disappear altogether. The cave also houses one of the earliest Hindu temples. Built around 550 AD, it has a main hall with a Shivalingam and idols of Hindu deities Dattatreya, Ganesha and Hanuman carved into the wall. There are also remnants of statues of Dwarpalakas or door-keepers.
