About

Among the best examples of the architectural and artistic style of Shekhawati is the  Khetri Mahal (the Wind Palace) constructed in 1770 by the founder of Khetri, Bhopal Singh, the grandson of Sardul Singh. It has elegant arches and marble pillars in place of walls at many points thereby allowing maximum free flow of air through out the building. An interesting feature is the ramp right from the entrance to the terrace for the horsemen to ride upon. This beautiful and charming monument inspired Sawai Pratap Singh from Jaipur to construct the fabulous Hawa Mahal in 1799.
