The monument commemorates Krommaluang Prachaksinlapakhom, born in 1856 to King Rama IV and the King's Consort Sangwan. As Krommaluang Prachaksinlapakhom (whose position "Krommaluang" translates as Prince Major General) he ruled the northern part of Thailand as a regent to King Rama V from 1893 to 1899. He founded Udon Thani town in 1893.
