La Guta

Derekh Betlechem 34 Cuisines: Arabic, French

About

A bit more unusual than more expensive luxury kosher choices, and set in charming, whitewashed, arched-ceiling rooms of a 19th-century building, La Guta offers meals in a Franco/North African tradition from the very personal kitchen of Mrs. Guta Ben Simhon. Everything served here is unique. Look for terrine de foie gras in scallion confiture; foie gras in cherry tomato jam; mullet filet in olive and herbs; goose thigh in forest berries; and a variety of sumptuous meat dishes, such as beef filet stuffed with foie gras, served in port-wine sauce. Interestingly seasoned salads round out the menu. On Tuesday, you can sample Guta's couscous. Desserts are worthwhile, and there's a good wine list.
