Lackagh Museum, Lackagh, Turloughmore, Galway, Republic of Ireland

About

The cottage, which now houses the Lackagh Museum in County Mayo, was abandoned in the 1970s and in a few years crumbled into ruins. In recent years, it has been restored as a traditional Irish cottage. Its golden thatched roof is the work of local crafts people. The cottage and out house contain artefacts and treasures of our ancestors. It reflects a way of life that has almost disappeared. The open fire, butter churns, a dresser full of beautiful crockery and a spinning wheel are just some of the valuable treasures stored in the cottage. An impressive display of farm machinery can also be seen. Open by appointment - telephone in advance.
