Le Bistro des Oies

About

The genial pair who run this cosy, eccentrically decorated neighbourhood place in a quiet road one block back from the Canal St-Martin characterise their customers as young, old, bearded, bald or nearly so, hipsters and rockers, those who eat organic and those who don't – everyone's friends here. Under the Mona Lisa and mobiles of twisted forks and other joyfully jumbled bric-à-brac you will find the typical cuisine of south-west France cooked well with carefully chosen wines to match. The geese the restaurant is named after appear on the blackboard menu in fig or lemon sauce, as do snails, duck, goat's cheese and, of course, foie gras. The light-hearted ambience belies the serious approach to the food and everything depends on what is best in the market that morning. Lunch is a bargain, dinner excellent value for the quality of the food.
