Le Chapeau Melon

92 rue Rébeval Cuisines: French

About

Amongst the many Chinese restaurants of Belleville, the Asian quarter in the north of Paris, hides this little wine bar that now serves a four-course tasting menu five times a week. Reservations are necessary to score one of the 15 seats: the chef prepares a menu (no choice), and you can choose from one of the many wines offered by the bar. The wine bar is humble: the kitchen is literally attached to the dining room, and you pass through it on your way to the bathroom, but it's a cozy place with a warm atmosphere and a no-nonsense attitude towards wine. Any wine lover will adore this place, as will anyone who loves being in on the best secret places to go in the city. -Emily Monaco
