Le Comptoir des Vins

13 bd. de la République Cuisines: French

About

The owners first established this wine shop with bottles from 450 to 500 wine producers, some of them very obscure, from throughout France. Soon afterward, a restaurant was established in the back of the store that quickly caught on as a dining attraction in its own right. Part of its allure derives from the white marble tables, bistro-style chairs, and sunlight flooding in from an overhead skylight. You can order any of 10 kinds of wine by the glass, but if you're really intrigued by anything you see in the store, the restaurant will uncork it for you for a surcharge of 10€ ($13) more than what you paid for the bottle, retail, in the shop. Menu items include an extensive selection of charcuteries and cheeses, piled high upon olive-wood planks, as well as a savory collection of meats, fish, and vegetarian dishes. All of these are designed to go well with wines, and with a vast inventory of vintages to choose from, the composition of a savory meal here is ripe with gastronomic possibilities.
