Le Comptoir d'Hippolyte

6 Rue Hippolyte Bouvier

About

Located near the Estacade market, this bouchon lyonnais-type restaurant opens early and stays open for late lunches. With non-stop morning service, you can enjoy what the Lyonnais call a mâchon--a mid-morning snack of hearty fare like oysters, veal trotter salad, and homemade terrines. The decor, with a mural of pigs and cows grazing in mountain pastures, adds a bit of country kitsch, but you don't come here for the frills, you come here for the good food at good prices in an authentic, under-the-radar restaurant. The dishes are those that made bouchon famous: Bobosse andouillette, rabbit terrine, lamb trotters, and poultry liver pie. For dessert, the cherry clafoutis and chestnut charlotte offer a sweet finish.
