The Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary is located between Teesta River and Mahananda River, around 25 km from Bagdogra.This vast forest land is located in the foot hills of Himalayas.The wildlife sanctuary is home to a wide range of animal and plant species. Some of the animals that can be seen here include chetal, rare mountain goat, fishing cat, barking deer, elephant, tiger, Indian bison and sambar. Besides, seasonal migratory birds also hop in during the winter season. The place is also popular for its wild peacocks and elephants.Tourists who love adventure will be happy to find a lot of trekking tracks like Latpancher, Deorali, and Golaghat-Mana. During rainy season, the sanctuary remains closed, which is from 15th July to 15th September.
