The Maipo river runs down from the Andes mountains down through the canyon, or Cajón de Maipo from south of the city in an area easily accessed from Santiago. The river is the most important waterway in central Chile, and has the wildest water close to the city. The Maipo is a short driver from Santiago, and pickups on this tour start at 9 AM. They have two startign points, depending on the conditions, which are at San Alfonso or at San Jose. From there, you meet your experienced guides, and pick up all gear, which is provided with the tour. The river is a class 3 to 4, depending on the season, and it cuts through a steep gorge in the Andean Cajón de Maipo. After rafting lunch is served, and you are driven back to your hotel, by 5 PM after this full-day tour.
