The theatre of San Giovanni Grisostomo was built in only four months at the end of 1677 on the site, which was once the home of Marco Polo, proven by the nearby toponym of the Court of Milion. The architects of this initiative were the Grimani brothers of Santa Maria Formosa who carried out an intense entrepreneurial activity in the theatrical field.
