Marine Life Museum

Under the Qaitbey Fort

About

I find this kitschy exhibition of stuffed fish and mocked-up sea mammals to be charming and pointless at the same time. One of the great things about it is, of course, that's it's so cheap that if you walk in and decide it's just plain stupid, you can walk away without a worry. Displays include an enormous stuffed (and quite possibly entirely fake) sunfish, a fin whale skeleton, and a diorama of a fishing boat from the perspective of the fish. As long as I have been coming here (I'm a regular visitor), there has been a hugely out-of-scale footprint in the sand on the bottom of the diorama, as though a giant has just walked through.
