Mersing town is located on the east coast of the peninsular Malaysian state of Johor. It is 136 Kilometres north east of the state capital Johor Bahru. It is a gateway to nature and traditional culture. But for most outsiders the small semi-tourist town is hardly more than a few-hours rest en route to Tioman Island. Mersing town is thus best known for its passenger boat jetty where boats depart daily for numerous offshore islands. Mersing is a rustic fishing village town about 136 kilometres north-east of Johor Bahru. It is famed as a stepping-off point to the Johor's underwater paradise; more specifically, a group of islands off the east coast anchored by the world-renowned Tioman Island. For years, boatloads of tourists depart from Mersing's jetties and headed for these beautiful islands. The town itself hosts dozens of travel agencies that specialise in island tours. There are also several very good restaurants that serve up fresh and cheap seafood.
