About

Mifgash Hashech is part of a popular chain whose claim to fame in Jerusalem is that they were open 24-hours a day and located in the Talpiot nightlife area, where clubbers would stumble in the early morning hours after a heavy night of dancing.  The Machane Yehuda branch is open till midnight and part of the revitalization of nightlife in the shuk.  After about 8 p.m, the nargilas and hot chai come out as the pace of the market winds down. Friendly workers haul out fresh pizzas and an assortment of fragrant baked goods from the brick oven all day and night, and hawk their wares to passers by. A great accompaniment in the winter is sahlab--a thick, delicious hot drink sprinkled with cinamon. Try the calzone-like cheese-filled pasties and the fresh focaccia topped with eggplant, zatar and roast peppers. All around are fruit stands and more traditional bakeries where you can find ample desserts.
