MILITARY CEMETERY OSU

Castle Rd

About

Where the Castle, Lokko and Angola roads converge in Osu is the Military Cemetery. It is directly opposite the back of the Sport Stadium in central Accra. The cemetery is reserved for the burial of service personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces. The graves of those service men who served in the Gold coast regiment to fight with the allied forces in the two world wars are also accounted for in this cemetery. Buried there are the remains of the National Liberation Council (NLC) chairman Lt. Gen Ankrah and General Kotoka who overthrew Ghana's post Colonial leader. Reburied in this cemetery in 2001 are the eight officers that suffered the wrath of Ft Lt. JJ Rawlings' coup in 1979.
