Mirabell Garden (Mirabellgarten)

(Mirabellplatz)

About

On a warm Sunday afternoon – or even on a mild winter one –Salzburgers of all ages come to Mirabellgarten to enjoy the elegance of their city. Especially beautiful at Easter, when a profusion of gold and red tulips bloom in their beds, this park marks the rhythm of the seasons with its roses and bright plantings. Statues of mythological figures surround the formal garden, which is bounded by an arbored walk and hidden garden spaces. The abstract Pegasus sculpture by Casper Gras rises from a fountain. Against this backdrop Julie Andrews, playing Maria von Trapp, taught her charges to sing "Do-Re-Mi" in The Sound of Music. Not far away, a pine shaded park and playground features a "Dwarves Garden" with crookback creatures in stone.
