About

Earlier, the theatre performed in the Krakow Centre for Jewish Culture at 17 Meiselsa Street, at 1 Kanonicza St. in the Zależny Theatre, and in the Centre of Contemporary Art in Krakow-Podgórze. It has performed since 1994, when it was founded by Stanisław Michno – an actor and director who has cooperated with Krakow theatres since 1964. In 1981 Michno left for the United States where he worked for five years in the Polish Theatre of Chicago. Since 1986 he was an actor of the Cricot 2 Theatre, and after the death of Tadeusz Kantor (1990) he was among the members of the Actors of the Cricot 2 Theatre. In 1994 he established his own theatre. Its first premiere was a production of Szekspir, moja miłość (Shakespeare, my Love, 1994,) based on works by William Shakespeare. In 1995 an adaptation of a short story by Isaac Bashevis Singer, Gimpel, followed. The production was presented at the Edinburg Festival where it was highly praised by Scottish critics. In 1996 the theatre put up Mówca (The Speaker) based on the works by William Shakespeare and Edward Stachura, the manifestos of the Cricot 2 Theatre, and the fragments of roles played in Kantor's theatre by Stanisław Michno. The following production, Magiczna moc (The Magic Power, 1997) was a return to the works of Isaac Bashevis Singer. The play makes use of a number of short stories by the American Nobelist of Polish origin, intertwined with fragments of the Bible. The Magic Power was also presented during the Fringe Festival held in Edinburg. The year 1998 brought the staging of Schweik based on the The Good Soldier Schweik by Jaroslav Haąek. The latest work of the MISTTheatre is Grabiec – król dzwonkowy i świat fantastyczny według "Balladyny" Juliusza Słowackiego (Grabiec – The King of Diamonds and the Fantastic World According to Juliusz Słowacki's Balladyna,) whose premiere was held in February 2000.Besides Stanisław Michno, the managing director, adaptator, actor, and stage director, the MISTTheatre are: his wife Agnieszka, son Wojciech, Teresa Fabian, Sylwia Garbowicz, and Agnieszka Wielgosz. The company's guest performances can be seen on the stage of the Zależny Theatre at 1 Kanonicza Street in Krakow.
