The Mohammed Ali Mosque crowns the Citadel of Salah ad-Din.  Built between 1824 and 1857 in the Ottoman style, the mosque was intended to echo the great imperial mosques of the Ottoman Empire.  Mohammad Ali Pasha, who built this magnificent structure, is considered the founder of modern Egypt.  Open daily.
