About

Metélt means noodle, but the waiter at this restaurant told us that the name is Japanese for the peach boy, based on a Japanese legend. According to our server, the menu is a combination of Japanese and Chinese. Regardless of its name, this once huge restaurant has shrunk in size, reserving its large banquet hall for special groups only. Now it is cozy and simple with plain wooden tables and stools in a nonsmoking environment. The tangy steamed pork dumplings, two in a serving, are large enough to share without feeling cheated. Shanghai pork rolls are hot and greasy, but with fresh oil, so you can taste the combined flavors of the meat and vegetables stuffed inside. Entrees like the Eight Delicacies combine chicken, pork, and tofu, with vegetables and peanuts. Beef with broccoli in oyster sauce has generous portions of beef and broccoli. The fried rice was cooked with shredded cabbage, not at all greasy, but light and an excellent side dish. No one will leave here hungry; the portions were sufficient to ask for a take-away container. The telling tale is the number of Asian diners during our meal; we were among the minority. There are many selections available at the lower end of the price range with specialty items at the higher end of the range.
