Winemaker David Potter is the new kid on the urban wine trail, but his Municipal Winery has become an instant favorite with its throwback vibe and exceptional varietals. The Bright White Chardonnay has been known to convert red-only drinkers and the Syrah on tap is a jammy favorite. Potter's tasting room is a mix of vintage signs, a turn-of-the-century cash register, hipster touches, and sleek iPads (which list tasting notes and charge your credit card). Located a few blocks from Cabrillo Street's beachfront boardwalk, it's easy to stop in for a quick $10 tasting while on a walk or a bike ride. If you like what you taste, but don't want to lug around bottles all afternoon, Municipal will gladly bike your purchases to your hotel or beach picnic. If you're a regular in Santa Barbara, purchase a $5 growler and fill and refill the one-liter bottle with wine on tap for $20 (frequent fillers get their seventh refill on the house).
