Muralla Árabe (Muslim Wall)

Calle de Bailen

About

Long before Madrid became the capital of Spain, Madrid was for a time a Muslim city. One of the few remains of this heritage is the ruins of the 9th century Muslim Wall (Muralla Árabe) that surrounded the most important parts of the city. The wall was constructed of stone and brick, parts of which can still be seen today in Mohamed I Park, named after the ruler who built the wall.
