New Akko Ethnographic and Folklore Museum
About
Scheduled to open in late 2008, this new museum, set in a dramatically restored market building located near the northeast entrance to the Old City, will contain a reproduction of a 19th-century market, including blacksmith, jewelry, pharmacy, tailor, money-changing, letter-writing, and leather-work shops. A second section of the museum will display collections of antique furniture (including pieces inlaid with mother of pearl in the old Damascus tradition), old coins, mirrors, game tables, copper ware, boxes, and other decorative items. Check with the Tourist Information Office for further details; a combined admission ticket for the new Ethnographic museum and other museums and historic sites in Akko may be offered during the time span of this edition.
