Observatory Hill is a hill near Chowrasta square, or The Mall as it is popularly known, in Darjeeling. Magnificent views of snow-clad peaks, including Mount Kanchenjunga, are visible from the Observatory Hill.
The Mahakal temple atop the Observatory Hill is a most revered place for the locals and you will be surprised to find a Hindu priest sharing a common altar with a Buddhist monk. It is one of the most respected places in Darjeeling as many locals come here to worship Lord Brahma, Vishnu and Maheshwar. This place has a unique element, as one will notice a Hindu priest chanting while a Buddhist monk simultaneously reads Buddhist Holy Scriptures. The holy place is quite famous with both Buddhist and Hindu devotees. The tranquil atmosphere here provides a very spiritual experience.
