About

O'Riain Pottery was established in 1998 by master craftsman John Ryan. We are situated in the heartland of south county Sligo. John makes both functional and decorative stoneware pottery, drawing inspiration from the surrounding rural landscape.Similarly to the past when Irish pottery was found on the tables of homesteads throughout the country, our handmade and manually decorated stoneware is offered to consumers looking for an alternative to uniform and uninspiring mass production. The special glaze makes our pottery durable, highly resistant to chipping, scratching and entirely safe while used for serving food. They are cadmium and lead free. Due to the very high quality, all of our pottery can be used in microwave, oven and dish washer. Only natural and ecological materials are used throughout the entire production process. After throwing, finishing and glazing, all products are fired to 1250 °C (2280 °F).Explore your creative side through the 3D medium of clay. Learn how to throw pots on the potters wheel, make hand built coil pots and slab built boxes. Learn the different decorating techniques and the firing art of raku to create your own unique pieces that will give a lifetime of enjoymment. All levels welcome from the beginners to more advanced students. Classes are maximum of eight students to ensure individual tuition. Classes cost €180 for 8 classes, all materials are provided, class times are 9.30 until 5.00pm. For further details please contact us. Weekend courses also available.
