A masterpiece created by Soufflot (1713-1780) and a former church, during the French Revolution the Panthéon became the burial place for famous French personalities. 72 famous personalities rest here, including Voltaire, Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Victor Hugo, Emile Zola, Jean Jaurès, Jean Moulin, and from 1996, André Malraux. Tour of the nave and the crypt. Permanent presentation: reproduction of the Foucault pendulum. The colonnade is open every year from 1 April to 30 September. Tours take place at specific times with a member staff at the monument. Works: In order to prepare for the restoration works on the Dome of the Panthéon, access to the colonnade will be closed from 1 August 2012. The top parts of the monument will be accessible again from April 2014. The monument will remain open throughout the duration of the works; visitors can access the naive and crypt as normal.
