The Anchor Bar, known locally as PJ’s, is one of Carlingfords best known & most popular bars. Located in the heart of the village on the picturesque pedestrianised Tholsel Street, our traditional bar proves a firm favourite among locals and visitors to the area.In recent years, PJ’s has become particularly well known for it’s top quality food and at the Irish Restaurant Awards in April 2012 we secured the title of Best Gastro Pub In Louth 2012 from the Restaurant Association of Ireland. This award makes it three years in the top spot for us, having also won the prestigious title in 2010 & 2011! Winning this award gives fantastic recognition to the excellent quality & value that our menu & service represents. The idea is a simple one..a Gastro Bar that sources all of it’s ingredients from within a 12 mile radius. We buy from our neighbours because their produce is some of the finest in Ireland and because of the proximity to each other our produce is freshly delivered each day.The original bar and part of the grocery store has remained untouched over the years, and is completed by the framed Leprechaun Bones & costume of Sean Og, found by the late PJ O Hare – attracting visitors & producers of documentaries from all over the world! The blazing open fire warmly welcomes customers in winter months, providing the perfect atmosphere to relax and enjoy fine food or drinks.The Lounge Bar, open at weekends, is a tasteful extension by the current owners, Michael & Bernadette Heaney, who have had the business for over ten years now. The lounge is fully air conditioned and boasts three 50inch LCD Screens making it the ideal venue to view all live sporting events! The Lounge Bar is also one of Carlingford’s premier hotspots every weekend, attracting visitors from far and wide in search of a great nights craic! It provides the perfect party atmosphere for young and old with a range of live music & entertainment to suit all tastes.The large Beergarden to the rear of the property is the perfect suntrap in summer months! It is the latest area within the pub to be developed to include a new bar, 50 inch LCD TV & state of the art surround sound system, as well as amazing retractable canopies to protect from the ever unpredictable Irish downpours! Beautifully decorated with colourful flowers and hanging baskets the beergarden is always bustling with atmosphere, whatever the weather!
