Port Elizabeth Main Library

About

Officially housed in 37 Newton Street in 1902 and declared a historical monument by 1983. The only public library in South Africa that still operates as one from different locations it once housed. By 1965, the asset of the North End Library was given to the Municipality of Port Elizabeth with that of Walmer Library as well to constitute the core of the Port Elizabethan Public Libraries.
