Ravindra Bharathi has been a prestigious National theatre, constructed by the Government of Andhra Pradesh in the name of Sri. Rabindranath Tagore, the first Nobel laureate from Asia, to serve the cultural needs of Andhra Pradesh. he theatre was commissioned during the centenary celebrations of Sri. Rabindranath Tagore . The foundation stone for the theatre was laid by Dr. B. Gopal Reddy on 23rd March 1960 and Dr. S. Radhakrishnan , the then Vice President of India, declared the open of the theatre on 11th May 1961.. .
Ravindra Bharathi is the venue for art lovers in Hyderabad. Almost packed on weekends with cultural performances and activities. Most of the shows are free without any entrance tickets. Ideal place to rub shoulders with artists. There is also an art gallery, a souvenir shop attached to it, and Department of Culture has an office.
