About

Housed in a traditional Cape-Dutch style manor house built in 1780, the Rembrandt Van Rijn Art Gallery exhibits paintings and sculptures with a classic Cape flavor. It is home to the Rembrandt Van Rijn Art Foundation, which has the objective of stimulating the appreciation of South African Art and introducing the work of eminent, international artists to the public. One of the most striking pieces on display in the lofty rooms is the 1808 'Panorama of Cape Town' which depicts a 180 degree view of Cape Town on 6 panels, each one over 3.8 meters high. Also prominent, are works by Irma Stern, a celebrated Cape artist. The foundation's gallery is augmented by works on loan from a private collection.
