The most elegant formal restaurant in Kiel offers superb cuisine, service, and wine. The Schloss, a stone building (ca. 1965) overlooking the harbor, looks like a museum set in a park. If you reserve, you can get a window table that opens onto the water. The cuisine has a creative and lighthearted style, using the freshest of produce and exquisite versions of lamb. Many fish dishes are from the north German seas. Try, for example, terrine of salmon and zander in cream sauce, followed by filet of lamb breast brushed with white breadcrumbs and baked with fresh herbs.
