Riverside bar and restaurant is a bit of an institution in Chiang Mai, and with its excellent location, candlelit restaurant and live rock music, it is very popular with Thais and Westerners alike. If there is one thing the establishment suffers from it is that it tries a little too hard to be all things to all people. It has a good enough restaurant without being exceptional, though the setting certainly is. The young cover bands bang out popular rock classics and can be very good but don't expect to hear much original or alternative music. Later tin the evening the place gets absolutely jammed so be prepared for service to be a little slow, but the vibe at Riverside is certainly upbeat and infectious.
