Rosticceria San Bartolomeo

On Calle della Bissa Cuisines: Italian

About

With long hours and a central location, this refurbished old-timer is Venice's most popular rosticceria, so the continuous turnover guarantees fresh food. With a dozen pasta dishes and as many fish, seafood, and meat entrees, this place can satisfy most any culinary desire. Since the ready-made food is displayed under a glass counter, you don't have to worry about mistranslations -- you'll know exactly what you're ordering. There's no coperto (cover charge) if you take your meal standing up or seated at the stools in the aroma-filled ground-floor eating area. If you prefer to linger, head to the dining hall upstairs, though it costs more and, frankly, for the money you can do much better elsewhere than this institutional setting.
