International fishing competitions are often held there, and there is possibilities of renting fishing gear or staying at the camping place. A must-see if you are in the region. The current is strongest when it switches direction, which happens two times a day - the tourist office has a timetable. Just remember that depending on weather and the waxing and waning of the moon, Saltstraumen can be either very strong, or rather insipid.
