Salzburger Heimatwerk

Unterm Glockenspiel

About

In a dignified stone building in the least-crowded section of Residenzplatz, with a discreet sign announcing its location, this is one of the best places in town to buy local Austrian handicrafts and original tracht, or costumes. Items include Austrian silver and garnet jewelry, painted boxes, candles, woodcarvings, copper and brass ceramics, tablecloths, and alpine designs for cross-stitched samplers. A special section sells dressmaking materials such as cotton and silk, with dressmaker patterns. Another section sells Austrian tracht such as dirndls, capes, and the rest of the regalia that's still worn during commemorative ceremonies and festivals. Wherever you go in this curious store, you're bound to find little treasures, so keep exploring.
