Of all the waterfalls in Marin County, Cataract Falls is probably the most popular. The cascades are plentiful along the 2.6-mile, tree-arched Cataract Trail on Mount Tamalpais State Park . While the falls are present year-round, they are at their largest in winter and spring, especially following rainstorms. Though the hiking isn't exactly easy, the trail is perfectly suitable for children and is relatively shaded from the hot sun.
