About

Joost, Sekiz' owner, apologized for the fact that the kitchen was working out a few kinks when I ate here, which basically means that Sekiz is destined for greatness, because I had some darn good meals. The open kitchen puts out delicious crispy spring rolls with a piquant dipping sauce; chicken satay; and vegetable samozas. But it's not all Asian; choose the marinated swordfish or lamb skewer, a grilled fish sandwich, or a hefty slab of steak. And Joost's wife Sercem makes a New York cheesecake that comes perilously close to the best I've ever had (Mom, yours is still #1); I was sorry to have offered to share. The bar/restaurant has a hip, cosmopolitan vibe; that it is hidden down a back street near Taksim Square in an unmarked building just makes it all the more fashionable.
