The Tom Fazio-designed course winds through the canyon, around the bends and folds of the hills, following the natural change of the elevation, passing rock outcroppings, stands of sycamores and creek beds. According to architect Tom Fazio, "The ultimate goal is to have it appear as if nothing has been done, that the layout is completely natural. Many of the great courses have these reputations - they just appear to fit perfectly in their environment. Shady Canyon is this kind of golf course."
