The Antoniadis Gardens (near the zoo, daily 0800-1830 winter, 0900-2000 summer, E£2) . The house, originally owned by a wealthy Greek family is now used for meetings of state. The gardens contain beautiful arrangements of trees and flowerbeds as well as several Greek marble statues. The Montazah Palace Gardens (open 24 hrs, entrance E£5) cover almost 160 ha. These formal gardens are a welcome respite from the bustle of the city and stunning on a clear day, the lush greenery being the perfect spot for a picnic. The adjacent beautiful beach makes this the most popular garden in Alex. Nouzha Gardens and Zoo (Sharia Smouha, open daily 0830-1630 winter, 0830-1730 summer, 25 pt, you can get there directly by taking tram 10 from St Catherine's Square) has many interesting birds and animals in the zoo. Adjacent gardens have picnic areas. Shallalat Gardens (closest to the city centre, open 24 hrs, free) are lovely in parts and have varying levels, rockeries and waterways. Alexandria International Garden (open daily 0800-sunset, 50-75 pt depending on day of the week.) At the entrance of the Desert Road lies 130 acres of gardens that provide recreational and cultural activities such as water sports. The garden also contains models of famous Alexandria tourist attractions and sites.
