Spring Birdwatching Weekend
Inishbofin, Galway, Republic of Ireland Phone: T: +353 (0)95 45991 http://www.dolphinhotel.ie/About
For birds from farther afield, Inishbofin Island in County Glaway is a crossroads between breeding areas many miles to the north and winter quarters in the sun. Larks, pipts, wagtails, warblers and shorebirds are a selection of the many birds that are on the move and Inishbofin is theirs for a brief time. Visitors can enjoy it with them and expect to see the migrants close up and personal.Weather permitting, a short boat trip is planned a few miles to the west. Shearwaters and petrels are among the seabirds that can be encountered here, yet are beyond binocular range from shore. The birdwatching guide is Anthony McGeehan who’s recent book, ‘Birds Through Irish Eyes’ contains superb photographs, many taken on Inishbofin.. The weekend will be spent trying to see and hear the full range of breeding birds on Inishbofin and, weather permitting, Inishark. The trip is suitable for all levels of ability. Visitors are recommended to bring binoculars, walking shoes and waterproof gear. Also sun screen as May can be surprisingly hot on Inishbofin.
