St Paul Stub'n

Herrengasse 16 Cuisines: European

About

Located in a quiet cobbled lane that leads from Kajetanerplatz (just beyond the cathedral and not far from the Mönchsberg lift), this stub'n – the word means parlor, and implies a cozy spot for food and drink – is worth seeking out. Climbing the stairs, you enter a series of intimate panelled dining rooms, eclectically decorated. Generation after generation of students have debated ideas in this wood-panelled room. The bar offers snacks, soups, salads, filled baked potatoes as well as hardier offerings including goulash, chicken, Tafelspitz and Wiener Schnitzel. Its outdoor tables overlook the quaint street and ancient buildings of the Cathedral quarter. It's a great place to while away a warm afternoon with a cold drink and good food.
